Mathieu Roche

Since October 2013, Mathieu Roche is CIRAD Research Scientist (PhD, HDR) at TETIS lab. Between 2005 and 2013, he has been Associate Professor (Maître de Conférences) at University Montpellier 2, France. 
Mathieu Roche obtained a PhD in Computer Science from University Paris XI (Orsay) in 2004. He defended his HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches - Accreditation to supervise research) in December 2011. 

At LIRMM, he was co-leader (2010-2012) and leader (2012-2013) of TEXT group. At the University Montpellier 2, he was in charge of the Master "Intégration de Compétences" (2008-2011). This Master welcomes more than 100 students in Computer Science. 
Mathieu Roche led several academic projects in text-mining such as two PEPS-CNRS projects together with linguists (2010 and 2013), MSH-M project (2012-2013), and MASTODONS-CNRS project (2013-2014). Moreover he managed numerous industrial projects. He has supervised 7 PhD students (3 PhD have already been defended) and 10 internships (Master 2 Recherche). He was co-chair of 5 international and national workshops. He has co-edited a book in Information Retrieval in Biomedecine and 3 special issues (data quality, opinion mining, DEFT challenge) of the RNTI Journal. With Jérome Azé, he created in 2005 the DEFT challenge ("DEfi Francophone de Fouille de Textes" meaning "Text Mining Challenge") which is a francophone equivalent of the TREC Conference. Since 2005 a new track of this challenge is organized each year. 
In 2014, he was co-chair of the Program Committee of NLDB conference (Natural Language Processing and Information Systems)Mathieu Roche published more than 120 papers in major international conferences (NAACL, EACL, NLDB, CICLING, RANLP, DEXA, ISMIS, ECIR, JADT, MedInfo, DaWak, RCIS, etc.), and journals (Information Processing & Management, Journal of Biomedical Informatics, Intelligent Data Analysis Journal, Informatica, SIGMOD Record, Journal of Digital Information, etc.).
